Nick Sentience: breaking the sound barrier at
Innovate
People often talk of those who
define musical genres. Pioneers in their field
who have help to mould and craft a sound which
evolved into a whole musical movement.
If you were to pick someone in the area of hard
dance then one person who would be at the top of
your list would be the undeniably talented
Innovate resident Nick Sentience.
Where Nick leads, others invariably follow;
which has been the case since he broke on to the
scene many years ago. With the release last year
of his widely acclaimed artist album -

We get Torqueing with Macey: preview to Torque's
6th birthday
On Saturday 28th January Torque celebrates 6 beat-fuelled
years of London clubbing, no mean feat given the
volatility of the scene and the high attrition
rate of promotions over recent years. Torque is
one of the few promotions that have remained
true to its underground roots. It can be safely
said that they've followed their original
mission statement, which was to throw the best
parties that they could whilst remaining true to
their beliefs about what the scene is about, and
at the same time provide a platform from which
their residents could play to up for it crowds
and develop their dj profiles. Dan Andres
managed to corner Macey, one of the
Torque promoters, and fire a few questions at
him before the celebrations kick off.

How Shau! n M got to tidy up
Tidy is the biggest label
for the harder generation in the world, and to
work with its A&R team is a great honour for any
budding DJ or producer. For South African born
Shaun M, the dream was realised, when
tidy trax's main man Lee Haslam spotted
his potential. He was then asked to join the
team as their tidy store online manager, and has
since become Lee's prot駩. As a result he's
produced 9 European stormers and gained himself
a reputation as a name to watch in the North of
England. Those of you who have been to a tidy
event will already be familiar with Shaun, but
those that haven't are in for a treat when he
makes his London big-event debut at tidy vs
Extreme Euphoria, taking place at Heaven
on 27th January.

Superfast Oz get his knickers in a Twist
While critics lament the lack of
any new and interesting production in mu! ch of
today's hard dance music, pioneering producer
Superfast Oz and his OD404 and
Satellite Kids studio and sometimes stage
partner Dom Sweeten continue full steam
ahead to make tracks that define the sound
itself. Building on a legacy which saw them
creating some of the finest hard dance classics
- such as '9Bar', 'Block Party', 'Fireball' and
'Let Me Tell U Something' - rather than cash in
on their past successes, they've continued to
between them make some of the most exciting hard
dance tracks of recent times: Oz's 'Robocock
(with Project Mayhem), 'Biofilter', 'Whizz
Bang', 'Daft Vader', 'Jirugi', 'Switchblade'...
the list just keeps going on and on.
