The Wicker Man (2006) (12A)
Ents24 Rating: * *
The Wicker Man was something of a groundbreaking thriller when it was first released in 1973. The chilling tale starred Edward Woodward as a religious policeman sent to a remote island to investigate a child's disappearance, only to find a pagan community where human sacrifice is still practised. With one of the most shocking endings in film history, it quickly became a British classic. So why on earth we need a remake set in the wilds of Canada is anyone's guess. Nicolas Cage's motorcycle cop helping an ex-girlfriend search for her missing daughter just isn't a patch on Woodward's performance and will disappoint anyone who loved the original. Do yourself a favour and hire that on DVD instead.

Adrift (15)
Ents24 Rating: * *
Who would have thought that a bunch of people could be so dumb? A gang of old high school friends get together for a weekend cruise on a luxury yacht and find themselves bobbing around helplessly in the water. Why? Because the last one in forgot to let down the ladder. The boat's too big to climb, they're miles from shore and the effort of keeping afloat is starting to take it's toll. As if it wasn't bad enough, water-phobic Amy (Susan May Pratt) has left her young baby Sara onboard. Apparently based on actual events, Adrift is a perfectly watchable disaster thriller but you'll spend the whole movie wondering how they could all be so stupid in the first place.

Little Man (12A)
Ents24 Rating: *
The 'brains' behind White Chicks are back, with one of the most ridiculous comedy plots ever brought to the big screen. Darryl (Shawn Wayans) is a short-sighted man so anxious to become to a father that he mistakes an extremely short and somewhat baby-faced criminal on the run for his newly adopted son. Tiny crook Calvin (Marlon Wayans) sees living with kind Darryl and his wife (Kerry Washington) as a way of lying low after a jewellery robbery, especially when they lavish all of their love and affection on him. So if potty humour, midgets and attractive lay-dees are your thing, then Little Man is the movie for you.

The Sentinel (12A)
Ents24 Rating: * * *
Having an affair with the President's wife is a risky business, especially when it implicates you in a plot to assassinate him. Respected special agent Pete Garrison (Michael Douglas) wishes he'd kept his belt buckled in this political thriller-by-numbers when his fumble with First Lady Sarah Ballentine (Kim Basinger) makes him prime suspect for murdering a fellow agent, part of a larger conspiracy to get the most powerful man in America. Forced to go on the run, Garrison discovers that a Neo-Nazi has infiltrated the Whitehouse and is the real killer. Tracking him is former protege and ex-best friend David Breckinridge (Kiefer Sutherland) and his rookie sidekick Jill Martin (Eva Longoria). Can Pete outwit them, prove his innocence and save the president? Do we even need to ask?

Crank (18)
Ents24 Rating: * * * *
Jason Statham seems to have established himself as the king of ridiculous action thrillers - and they don't come more far-fetched than Crank. Professional hit man Chev Chelios (Statham) awakes to find he has been injected with a lethal serum by bad guy Ricky Verona (Jose Pablo Cantillo) and only has an hour to live. The only thing that will slow down the poison while he hunts for a cure is to keep his heart rate sky high. So while the plot is ludicrous, at least the 150mph motorbike race through LA, cocaine snorting and public sex sessions with girlfriend Eve (Amy Smart) are justified. And anyone who gets in his way had better look out. Not one if you like your movies with logic, well-rounded characters and subtlety. But trashy fun doesn't come any better than this.

Terkel In Trouble (15)
Ents24 Rating: * * * *
Johnny Vegas, Bill Bailey and Adrian Edmondson are just some of the comedy stars lending their voices to this Danish Tim Burton meets South Park CGI adventure. At the centre of the story is geeky 6th grader Terkel, who lists a chain-smoking mum, monosyllabic dad, drunk uncle, annoying sister, school bullies and an iron pipe wielding, rap-obsessed best friend among the usual teenage worries. So far, so dysfunctional. Then the poor lad starts receiving death threats from a psycho-killer. And the only person he thinks can save him is new teacher. A tale of kids for adults, Terkel in Trouble is full of crude and close to the bone humour but its loopy look at harassment and bullying will make you thankful you're not 13 anymore
